A website set up in the wake of the 7 July bombings in London has seen a surge of interest after the attempted atrocities on 21 July. 

Werenotafraid.com reported that traffic has picked up rapidly and the site now hosts more than 230 galleries of images, each one holding around 25 photographs.

The images are being sent in from around the world, each with a message of defiance to the bombers.

"After this morning's events, we have seen a surge in submissions to between five and 10 per minute," said the team behind the site.

"In addition, we have several thousand images backlogged and waiting to be posted. Our team is working tirelessly to make sure that your photos are added as soon as possible."

Similar sites have proved increasingly popular in recent years. Americans who voted against the re-election of George W Bush used the technique to apologise for the election result.

Bush supporters then came back with their own, now defunct, site apologising for the apologists.
