Macca to beam gig into space

Aliens request a few Lennon tracks instead

Written by Iain Thomson

Sir Paul McCartney is to beam music live from his concert tour in the US to the International Space Station 220 miles above the Earth.

Nasa has a long-standing tradition of waking the Space Station inhabitants with music, which it believes helps to reduce stress levels.

On 12 November McCartney will beam up a live track from his new album English Tea as well as The Beatles track Good Day Sunshine.

This is something of a reprise for Nasa, since Good Day Sunshine was played for the crew of the space shuttle Discovery on their last flight in August.

"I was extremely proud to find out one of my songs was played for the crew of Discovery this summer," said McCartney. "In our concert we hope to repay the favour."

The music will come from one of the last gigs in McCartney's US tour in Anaheim, California.
