The simplest and most convenient way to free music from your iPod is to invest in a portable speaker system like the Intempo iDS-01.
Like other similar products we've looked at, just slot your iPod (standard, photo or mini) into the dock, select a tune and music will pump out of the small speakers.
If attached to the mains, it will also charge the iPod. This is an especially good feature as an official Apple charging cable costs around £20. It also comes with a USB 2 lead for transferring music from your computer.
The iDS-01 isn't that powerful when compared to a fully blown stereo system but for a portable bedside music player, it's very good and sounds reasonably clear at acceptable volume levels.
On the downside, it's mains-only powered and it doesn't support the iPod Shuffle. It has got a line-in socket though, so you can attach a CD player, digital radio or any other external audio source.
It's well priced but there are more versatile speakers on the market.
