Microsoft has confirmed the launch date and retail price for its Zune portable media player

The device will be launched on 14 November and will be priced at $249.99 for the 30GB version.

The price tag puts the Microsoft player in direct competition with Apple's newly-updated 30GB iPod which retails for the same price.

Like SanDisk's Sansa e200 series, the Zune will come pre-loaded with music and video content.

Microsoft also plans to launch a music download service for the Zune, offering the options of purchasing individual songs or an all-you-can-eat monthly subscription.

To jump-start competition with the five year-old iPod accessory marketplace, Microsoft also announced 10 Zune accessories ranging from AV cables to FM tuners.
The accessories will be available in specialised discounted packages, such as car kits and travel packs.
