A UK man has been jailed for carrying out a cyber-stalking campaign against a Canadian woman.

According to The Scotsman newspaper, Christopher Kell, 37, from Cumbria, pleaded guilty last week to stalking a Winnipeg woman by sending thousands of harassing emails, letters and faxes.

It is one of the first cyber-stalking cases to reach the Canadian courts.

Kell was sentenced to two years in jail by a court in Steinbach, Manitoba, and will be deported once he has served his time.

The court heard how he met his victim in an internet chat room for literature enthusiasts. They later met in Paris but, after the relationship ended, Kell started his campaign against the woman.

It also emerged that Kell sent nude photos of the woman to her family, local businesses, and even two churches.

On hearing the sentence, Kell threatened to kill himself and screamed "redneck" at the judge.
