Organising information is a big challenge, and computers seem to have made the problem worse by putting so much information in our hands.

Evernote 2.2 goes a long way to solving this problem by offering one place to store handwritten notes, webpages, emails and to do lists.

It uses the notion of an endless paper roll rather than using folders so that all the notes can be seen by scrolling up and down.

To avoid long hours of fruitless searching there is a search option that can look at categories or the contents of the note. The Advanced version can even recognise words in images and handwriting. Handwriting recognition is included for English, German, French and Russian.

Notes can be written directly into Evernote and there is a Web Clipper tool for IE, Firefox, Thunderbird and Outlook.

There is also portable version for using USB keys or memory cards. The Advanced version can also syncronise information between a USB key and a computer.

Notes can be exported into HTML.

This is the free version of Evernote and the advanced features will only work for 60 days. These include the searching within images, handwriting recognition, shape correction and digital ink support. This version costs $50.
