Online office suites are great tools when accessing documents from different computers, but online editors are still no match for a specific program on a computer.
The OOIntegrator plugiin for Openoffice gives Openoffice the ability to connect to either Zoho or Googledocs to edit documents.
Installation is fairly easy: double-click on the downloaded file to start Openoffice and install the plug-in.
Alternatively, click on the Tools menu and then Extension Manager. Click on the Add button and find the download. Openoffice much be restarted to complete the installation.
After this a new menu appears in Openoffice called OOIntegrator. The first step is to enter the log- in details for Zoho and Googledocs. A welcome touch is that it is possible to test the details before saving them.
Once that is done, you can access either Zoho or Googledocs from the OOIntegrator menu. A list of all the files saved online is displayed to select a file. Double-click on a file and it can then be edited as if it was on the computer.
We found that it was necessary to save documents using the pop-up window, rather than clicking on the save button in Openoffice. The button made an error message appear. It's a shame that this does not work in the way you would expect, hopefully it will be fixed in later versions.
