Goodmans GCE 7007DAB

A digital radio for your car.

Even if you're happy meddling with the insides of your PC, pulling the dashboard off your car may be a step too far. Still, if you want digital radio in the car, the Goodmans GCE 7007 DAB is a very affordable option, even if you pay someone else to fit it.

The sleek silver head unit is very contemporary and won't look out of place in the coolest of motors. As you'd expect, the front panel can be removed for security reasons but replacing it afterwards is fiddly.

Navigating through the menus using the buttons is simple and logical. Once your favourite radio stations have been found, the difference in sound quality between digital and FM radio is immediately apparent. Bear in mind that you need reasonably good speakers in the car if you're going to get the best sound quality. As well as digital radio, regular audio CDs can be played, although there is no option for connecting a multi-changer.

At £199, this is likely to be the cheapest digital receiver on the market. If the front panel wasn't so fiddly, we'd buy it.
