It is now quite common to use CDs or DVDs to back up data, be it pictures, downloaded files or personal documents. But, although discs are resilient to scratching and scuffing, cumulative damage to its surface will eventually make the disc partly or fully unreadable.

The simplest way to stop this is to take care of the discs, keeping them in cases when not in use and storing them in cool, dry places.

For those who have data on regularly used CDs or DVDs, however, the d_skin could come in handy. It is a plastic sheath that clips around the edge of a disc and protects the surface from dust and scratches.

The disc can be used with the cover on and is designed to stay on the disc once it has been attached, although it can be easily removed.

It's not a bad idea and it works, although it might be easier to simply keep a backup copy of discs containing sensitive data.
