The iPod still has its role as an individual, portable music player but many other devices can incorporate them; cars with iPod docks for example.
It also appears that bedside clocks can benefit too.
The Trust SP-2993Wi clock is compatible with any iPod that has a dock connector. It also plays radio and will charge and iPod when docked.
The iPod sits in a slot, which is concealed under a flap when not in use. Underneath the dock it is a large blue backlit screen which displays an oversized time and date.
On top of the Trust SP-2993Wi are control buttons including the all-important snooze and a volume dial, which is reminiscent of an iPod scroll wheel. Waking up to iPod music means selecting your chosen track the night before and pressing pause. In the morning, the SP-2993Wi will power up and commence playback. Pressing the snooze button gives five minutes dozing time, which can't be changed.
For those who prefer to have a bit of variety, there's also an FM and AM radio mode. A suitably annoying buzzer can also be set.
When cranked up to full volume, the Trust's 30W RMS speakers are loud enough to wake the deepest of sleepers. Sound quality, however, is very tinny.
In addition to regular playback, the SP-2993Wi can stream music and iPod photos to a TV via connections at the back. A headphone socket can be found here too.
The SP-2993Wi comes with a remote control and a mains adapter, but it can also be battery powered.
As an alarm clock, the SP-2993Wi works well giving a good range of options and a clear screen with a big time display. However, those who like their sound to be crystal clear should look elsewhere.
