Digital camera simulates film photos

Other new models include compact camera ideal for bloggers

Fujifilm has announced several cameras for 2008, ranging from tiny compact models to an ultra-zoom model that can simulate the look of photos taken using slide film.

Two new J series cameras each take 8.2-megapixel images, and can accept both xD and SD memory cards.

The J10 comes equipped with a 2.5-inch LCD and a 3x optical zoom lens, while the J50 has a 2.7 inch LCD display and 5x zoom lens.

Available in five colours, the Z20fd records 10-megapixel images, and includes a function that automatically resizes images making them easy to share on a blog or social networking website.

The FinePix S1000fd takes 10-megapixel images and has a 12x optical zoom lens. It is targeted at amateur photographers and has 14 pre-programmed scene modes. Its Panorama Shooting mode captures three 3-megapixel images that are then automatically combined into one larger image.

Replacing the existing S8000fd, the 10-megapixel S8100fd has an 18x zoom lens. The F100fd takes 12-megapixel photos and has a 5x zoom lens. Its sensitivity can be adjusted up to a huge ISO setting of 12,800, making it possible to take photos in low light conditions without the flash.

Finally, the S100FS is the largest of the new models. Shaped rather like a digital SLR camera, it includes Film Simulation modes that give digital images the same look as those shot on traditional Fuji Velvia or Provia film.

Fujifilm's cameras will be available from March, except for the S1000fd which is expected in April. Prices are yet to be announced.
