Granada Learning Exploring World Religions

An interesting and informative interactive CD-Rom for children

Written by Darren Allan

This CD-Rom is aimed at younger kids aged from seven to 12. Its interface is therefore commendably simple and plenty of help is given throughout. There's even a broad narrated introduction explaining exactly what the different sections of the disc are about. These include Places, People, Beliefs, Holy Writings and Special Days, along with a fun quiz (that can be played solo or in teams) to test what you've learnt using the program.

Six religions are covered in total, the same ones as Granada Learning's previous Aspects of Religion, minus Shinto and Confucianism. Exploring the Places submenu, you can take a look at a mosque or a synagogue both inside and out, with particular points of interest elaborated upon through pictures and narration.

The CD-Rom contains more than 300 images and the spoken commentary is clear and concise. You can also examine each religion's geographical homelands and places of worship. The depth of content is admirable yet the commentary is kept brief so as not to bore.

The People section gives the narrated perspective of a child follower of each religion, which is very interesting. Beliefs examines just that and also contains a useful, basic timeline of each religion. Holy Writings and Special Days take a look at famous scriptures and religious festivals respectively.

There's certainly plenty of diverse content throughout Exploring World Religions.
