Based on the popular Dr Seuss book that was first published in 1957, The Cat in the Hat really brings the story alive. It's quick to install and start using. The main screen provides access to the full story, accompanied by the script and lots of animation. The words in the script are highlighted as they are read, so children can follow the story but they can't read it in advance.

Other aspects of The Cat in the Hat include a games section linked to the story. At the end of several of the scenes, there are objects to click on for further animations and puzzles to complete. The animation is very impressive and a lot of thought has been put into making it amusing as well as educational.

If you want to go to a particular scene, an Options section divides the scenes into 12 parts, so you can skip through to a particular one and listen to the script.

Keyboard controls are available throughout the program to let you skip sections and escape, but there are no instructions on which ones to use.

The game is suitable for ages three to six, but is fine for a wider age range. The help facilities are excellent, with the Cat providing animated narration to show you how to use the program.
