Kodak Security CD-R

Kodak Security CD-R

A simple and cheap way to secure your files

The idea of the Security CD-R is that, should you have files that need to be securely stored, simply insert the disc, drag and drop the files or folders in question on to it, and they will be encrypted and stored safely.

In practice, both storing the files securely and getting them back worked without a hitch. Installation is simple: insert the disc for the first time and it will install some software and reboot the PC.

Whenever the disc is inserted, the Security CD-R software starts automatically. It's then a case of dragging and dropping files (and setting a password) to secure them, or going through the reverse process to move files back to the PC.

If you change encrypted files, however, these changes are not automatically made on the CD-R meaning that you have to encrypt and drag them across again, which is annoying.

The software is also a bit slow to start up and shut down, although it took under 10 minutes to fully encrypt and store a whole disc of data. Despite these minor quirks, this is a quick and simple answer to file security.
