Keep passwords safe on your phone

Mobivault has a simple premise - it creates a secure 'vault' on your phone for storage of passwords, Pins and other information that needs to be kept secret.

Installation is only a matter of sending a text message to a number listed on the Mobivault website, and following the instructions that appear in the reply.

It costs £5 and works on most phones, although, disappointingly, there isn't a compatibility list on the website, although an email to sales@mobivault.net should provide more information.

Once installed, it's found under the Apps section of the menu, which is a bit of a fiddle - it would have been nice to have given it its own icon in the main menu. Enter the master password to get in, and you can start adding up to 50 passwords.

It's extremely easy to use - click Add Name and follow the steps. It will even generate a good random password if you can't think of one for a new service. It will also take comments for each entry for extra notes and explanation. Once all your passwords are added, you can then see a list, or search for a part of a name.

There's really nothing to it, and this part works well. Of course, once you start the program, anyone who has the phone can see all the passwords, which is why it's important to quit Mobivault as soon as you've checked your password (on starting again, it will again ask for the master password).
