South Staffordshire Water has armed its field inspectors and network leakage control staff with mobile mapping and information systems from Procis Software. The Fujitsu pen-based systems, which interface to a central Procis geographical information system (GIS), will replace paper maps. The water utility has bought 24 mobile units so far at a cost of #150,000. Jay Mistry, networks and GIS manager at South Staffordshire Water, said the mobile system has 'enabled us to make significant cost savings'.
