The company behind one of the North West’s largest housing improvement schemes has outsourced management of its supply chain to cut costs by 30 per cent.

The £500m improvement programme funded by the GM Procure consortium of housing associations has more than 65 supply chain partners.

It outsourced management and monitoring of materials for the refurbishment of up to 100,000 homes across Manchester and the North West.

GM Procure chose Valueworks to provide its closed loop supply chain to maximise savings. The electronic programme will deliver 31 per cent savings on costs, much more than the original 10 per cent target.

A spokesman says intelligent supply chain management can yield massive savings and GM Procure chose Valueworks after it delivered savings on an earlier project.

The programme is due to begin in August and take up to four years.
