STA Travel's web sites take off

Traffic management software speeds web content delivery

Written by Dave Friedlos

STA Travel has implemented traffic management software to speed up the delivery of content to its worldwide network of offices and local web sites.

The travel firm recently centralised web site processes, implementing a single content management system, to cut costs and ensure web site consistency.

But some remote branches experienced performance issues like reduced connectivity and slow loading times because of its distance from the centralised system.

STA Travel head of operations Peter Brand says online services are essential to its revenue and installed web traffic management software at local sites.

It chose Zeus Extensible Traffic Manager from Zeus Technology, which accelerates the content delivered from its central data centre as well as improving local web site traffic management and load balancing capability.

‘Zeus has helped us ensure our new content management system performs at optimum levels,’ said Brand. ‘Not only have page loading times improved, but we now know the service will be completely reliable, regardless of the location.

‘We were delighted that the Zeus solution can be used without any modifications to the content management system.’

Brand says the project was completed on time and budget.

The software is deployed on a utility computing platform based on Egenera BladeFrame systems.
