Surge in broadband use puts pressure on networks

Competition to attract customers will spur growth in broadband bandwidth needs, says telecoms company

Written by James Brown

Businesses need to ensure their IT and communication networks can cope with escalating broadband use in 2007, according to a series of studies carried out by ntl:Telewest Business.

The telecoms company believes demands on the UK’s networks will increase as consumer devices become more sophisticated and businesses use increasingly bandwidth hungry applications.

Network resilience and capacity will become even more crucial to withstanding internet growth, says ntl:Telewest Business's director of business markets, John Cunningham.

'During 2006 businesses and the public sector have been developing interactive services that are based on broadband technology which will make it easier for end users to interact with them,' he said.

'Organisations need to be planning ahead in order to ensure that their network will continue to deliver a reliable and robust service in the face of increased usage.'
