Ninety-eight per cent of senior IT professionals are worried about the
negative impact their company has on the environment, according to new research.
A survey of a 100 senior IT professionals conducted by document management
software company Version One found 56 per
cent admitted to being very concerned.
Version One director Tony Bray says even with nearly all respondents being
worried about their organisation's impact on the environment it is clear that
the UK still has a long way to go if it is to slow the effects of climate
change.
‘All those surveyed believe more needs to be done to persuade UK companies to
reduce their negative impact on the environment although ideas about measures
vary,’ said Bray.
Nineteen per cent of respondents believe financial incentives, legislation
and education are needed to lessen environmental impact with 17 per cent
suggesting financial incentives alone are the answer.
Sixteen per cent believe that education programmes are sufficient and 13 per
cent of respondents feel that legislation alone would encourage businesses to
become more eco-friendly.
Penalties, greater collaboration with world leaders and nuclear power
projects are amongst the other measures suggested by respondents.
