Last year's Formula 1 champions, the ING Renault F1 team, is installing a
content management system to manage, share and secure critical documents.
The system, from vendor Oracle, allows the team to access documents and
information faster and more easily from multiple locations.
'We are an information heavy organisation where the slightest bit of data can
be the difference between winning and losing,' said Alexandre Rigal, IS project
manager, ING Renault F1 Team.
'It is essential that we provide the team with access to all the relevant
information to help them be more efficient and effective in our goal of
remaining Formula 1 World Champions.'
The team needed a solution to reduce growing storage costs associated with
the 100,000 plus documents stored by staff on network-shared drives, local hard
drives, in emails, on the intranet and applications.
A typical race weekend can produce over four gigabytes of information spread
across various devices.
The system will also reduce the amount of email attachments by providing
links to files in the central repository for faster and easier sharing of
information, meaning that employees working remotely will have much faster
access.
Sensitive documents such as car designs can now be secured using Information
Rights Management (IRM) to protect them from unauthorized users.
