Competitiveness minister Stephen Timms will be making a speech to the Broadband Stakeholder Group (BSG) tonight.
The minister is expected to talk about the need for next-generation super high-speed internet access in the UK.
The BSG 'Pipe Dreams' report, published in April, called for renewed focus on the roll out of next generation broadband and said investment bottlenecks needed to be overcome within the next 18 months.
It also recommended a government target that the UK be in the top quartile of industrialised countries for fibre acess by 2012.
