Geospatial mapping will help E.ON Central Networks manage its distribution assets

Digital mapping helps risk assessment at energy supplier

Geographic information will improve asset management at E.ON Central Networks

Written by Janie Davies

E.ON Central Networks (ECN), a distribution unit of energy supplier E.ON, will have improved survey capabilities under a contract with Infoterra, a supplier of geographic information services.

Detailed geospatial mapping of ECN's network will allow staff to carry out fast initial surveys from their desks.

And high-resolution imagery will help ECN to assess risks and improve maintenance projects on powerline poles.

The enhanced information will also help to manage equipment, said Robert Ferris, innovation manager for ECN.

"We are constantly looking for innovative ways to improve our internal business processes and the strategic management of our network," he said.

"Thanks to the high level of detail in Infoterra's mapping solution we will have invaluable information for our ongoing asset management."
