The new platform will let ITV flourish in a digital world

ITV builds digital archive for on-demand TV

The new BT platform will help the broadcaster deliver online video around the world

Written by Neon Kelly

ITV has unveiled a digital content platform developed by BT, allowing the broadcaster to deliver on-demand video to online viewers around the world.

BT's Mosaic service will let ITV share programmes across a variety of networks and devices. Once implemented, ITV will also be able to give other broadcasters access to its archive, allowing them to edit content to meet the requirements of local trends and laws.

So far ITV has digitised 20,000 shows for electronic distribution. The collaboration with BT will play a key role in the broadcaster's future strategy, said technology director Richard Cross.

“BT Mosaic will enable ITV to reinvent its channels to market to reflect the way consumers – and other broadcasters – interact with content both in the UK and globally," said Cross.

"The BT-developed content store is the core platform that will enable ITV to flourish in the new, globalised, digital world."
