New platform will attract businesses to the social network

Written by Neon Kelly

MySpace will launch a platform for promoting small businesses, to expand its user base.

The Silver Squirrel service will offer templates to help firms build a customised business profile, said Travis Katz, managing director of MySpace International.

“We’re going to create new profile types, so that any small business can create a special profile and use it as a networking hub,” said Katz.

MySpace will face fresh hurdles, said Ovum senior analyst Richard Mahony. “The business community will have different requirements. The applicability of social networking is not homogenous across what is a very broad sector,” he said.
