Card maker PNY Technologies has kicked off its push into the Irish market by signing its first distribution deal with Dublin-based Sherlane Agencies.
Sherlane will be responsible for launching PNY’s full range of products, from graphics cards and memory modules to Flash-based storage products, including the vendor’s recently announced Attache USB drives.
PNY said it intends to become a household name in Ireland and that it is already in talks with leading Irish retailers to take its ranges.
“We are delighted to be working with Sherlane to launch the PNY portfolio into the Irish channel,” said Stefanie Summerfield, PNY’s UK general manager.
“Our aim is for our full range to be available to our target audience and we are confident this will be achieved. We have no doubt that in working with Sherlane, PNY’s profile will be maximised in Ireland.”
Derek Flett, managing director of Sherlane, added: “We are very excited about the PNY brand. The company offers a market-leading range of essential components to the consumer. We have every confidence that we can successfully launch the brand in Ireland and facilitate its growing market share.”
PNY will also be hoping to extend the market for its forthcoming solid state disk (SSD) drives. SSD drives are just starting to appear in high-end, ultraportable notebooks as replacements for traditional hard disk drives (HDDs). The vendor recently announced its first SSD products, with sizes ranging from 128GB drives for the 2.5in desktop market and 64GB versions for the 1.8in notebook arena. Although more expensive than HDDs, PNY claimed that large-order pricing for its 32GB SSDs will be about £175 when they ship in the third quarter.
“PNY is a serious contender in the SSD space,” said Jason Breakstone, product manager, SSD drives for PNY. “With our ability to manufacture the drives in-h ouse, we can build to order on a wide range of SSD products and provide individual attention to each of our customers.”
