Micro Peripherals (Micro-P) has labelled its move into manufacturing a resounding triumph and has predicted its new Linx brand will generate 10 per cent of its turnover within three years.
The distributor launched the first Linx offerings last August after striking up ties with the China-based sourcing arm of parent firm Sercom.
Simon Woodman, business development director at Micro-P, said: “The difficulty is ensuring what you order is what you receive. Having people out in Shenzhen makes it easier.”
The range includes digital photo frames, DVID cables and LCD tables.
“This is about having our own products where we don’t compete with anyone in the UK,” he said.
Andy Gass, managing director of Computer 2000, said: “It’s an interesting step for Micro-P. It’s a market that offers high margins, but with a high risk if you go for the wrong products. I think it could lead to some conflict with some of Micro-P’s manufacturers.”
However, Woodman denied Linx would cause a rift with suppliers. “We treat Linx as just another range of products and try to minimise any conflict with our vendors,” he said.
