8e6 draws web filtering battle lines

Web filtering vendor signs VAD Wick Hill in push to grab market share away from rival Websense

Written by Kayleigh Bateman

Security vendor 8e6 has issued a war cry to rival Websense in the UK web filtering market and has enlisted Wick Hill as its first distributor.

Since rival Websense acquired SurfControl last year, 8e6 Technologies has been vying to increase its UK market share. It boasts its products are superior to Websense both in terms of value and performance.

Ian Kilpatrick, chairman of Wick Hill, said: “Given the quality of this product and the huge market opportunities, this is a great chance for resellers to differentiate themselves and make good margins.”

Eric Lundbohm, vice president for marketing at 8e6 Technologies, said: “SurfControl customers are likely to be looking for an alternative when it comes to renewing their web filtering solution. The opportunity is there for the channel to provide them with 8e6."
