Computacenter chairman leaves for Northern Rock

Ron Sandler leaves corporate reseller to focus on new role at soon-to-be-nationalised bank

Written by Doug Woodburn

Computacenter is hunting for a new non-executive chairman after Ron Sandler stepped down with immediate effect to focus on his duties at Northern Rock.

Sandler was appointed as executive chairman at the soon-to-be-nationalised bank in January, but until today retained his non-executive chairman role at Computacenter.

Computacenter said the search to find a permanent replacement is already underway.

Sandler, who is famed as a ‘corporate trouble-shooter’, was credited with turning around struggling insurance firm Lloyd’s of London in the mid-1990s. His impressive CV also includes a stint working for Gordon Brown, when in 2001 he was tasked with producing a report on the long-term savings industry.

Sandler has been chairman of Computacenter since 2001, although he switched from an executive to a non-executive role last July (CRN, 10 July).
