Memory distributor Simms International has signed a distribution agreement
with US-based Super Talent Technology, which makes Flash storage solutions and
DRam memory modules.
Managing director of
Simms,
Alex Tatham, said he is very confident that
Super
Talent’s solid state disks (SSDs) and USB drives will be welcomed in the UK
channel.
“SSD is a critical part of our line-up and Super Talent’s products are
immediately available. It has already made a significant impact in the USA and
we could not be more delighted to be chosen as its UK representative,” he said.

Super Talent showcased its range of SSDs, flash and DRam products at Computex
Taipei on 3 June.
Jen Wang, Super Talent’s European sales director, said: “This is great for Super
Talent because our products will finally be made available to 60 million British
consumers.”
Though Simms already carries other vendors’ SSD and memory products, product
manager Simon Worsley explained that the exclusive deal on SSDs would make this
a key signing.
“Solid state is going to be massive, because for many end users the slowest
part of their PC is the disk drive. This is not surprising when every other PC
component has advanced massively,” he argued.
“For £180 trade price, you can get a 30 gig drive now. It uses only 15 per
cent of the power, runs much faster and does not get destroyed if the wind
changes direction.”
In related news, Simms also announced that it is to distribute Powertraveller
travel accessories in the UK. These products, aimed at the remote and mobile
user, give customers more options for powering a portable device.
One product option means the charge from an electricity supply can be stored
for four times as long as
a normal battery would last. Another product harnesses solar power.
“When using a Powertraveller product, you are never short of power for your
portable device,” Tatham explained.
“Strangers often ask me about the product when they see me using the
solar-powered Powermonkey Explorer phone charger on the train.”
