Microsoft plans digital jotter

New OneNote software is intended to help users keep track of impromptu data entries

Written by Martin Veitch, IT Week

Microsoft last week demonstrated OneNote, a new application designed to bridge the gap between paper-based note-taking and PC text input.

OneNote lets PC users take notes in a more natural way than with word processors. Users can type on any part of the screen and flag their notes. Tabs help to organise notebooks while an index pane makes it easier to find a given note.

Files are continuously saved and can be published as HTML, for instance in Weblogs. Microsoft also showed digital voice recording synchronised with text notes. OneNote will be sold separately and possibly as part of Office 11, which is due later this year.
