Document conversion boosts accessibility

RiverDocs Converter changes documents on web sites into more accessible HTML versions

Written by Phil Muncaster

Document conversion specialist RiverDocs has launched a new product designed to enable firms with documents on their sites to achieve web accessibility compliance and enhance usability.

RiverDocs Converter takes the documents in their original format and changes them into accessible HTML versions, using automated processes that can convert around 240 pages in 40 seconds.

"It's simple and easy so anyone in the organisation can use it," said head of sales and marketing Oliver McVeigh. "Documents are the proverbial ignored elephant in the room when it comes to web accessibility, because of the time and cost involved in converting them, but W3C standards don't just apply to web pages."

The product could also help busy professionals trying to access PDFs and other documents on mobile devices because it makes navigating to the relevant portion of text quicker and download speeds faster, added McVeigh.
