Intel builds laptop into surfboard

Surfin' Centrinos

Written by Robert Jaques

In a novel take on surfing the web, Intel has devised what it claims is the world's first surfboard with a built-in wireless laptop.

Apparently the surfboard will allow surfers to check their emails, surf the web, and even record footage of themselves catching the best waves.

The chip giant does not, however, explain how it is possible to keep your balance while simultaneously operating a laptop and riding on the crest of a wave.

Dubbed the Intel Wireless Technology Surfboard, the Centrino laptop has been developed to accompany the 2004 Intel GoldCoast Oceanfest, the North Devon free sports and music festival held from 18 to 20 June.

The one-of-a-kind board also comes complete with a built-in solar charging kit to allow the laptop to be recharged by the sun while on the beach.

It will be, literally, launched and surfed for the first time at the festival by professional surfer Duncan Scott.

"In the near future, via wireless real-time streaming, it could be possible that observers will be able to 'ride' a wave with the best surfers in the world," said Scott in a statement.
