Oracle and Intel have teamed up to co-develop RFID and sensor-based technologies based on what they describe as a "common service-oriented enterprise framework".

According to the firms, the amount of data created from RFID networks each day requires "robust data" management capabilities and significant computing power.

The jointly produced data and supply chain management technologies will attempt to address this by integrating currently available products from Oracle and Intel.

These include Oracle Application Server 10g, Oracle Database 10g, Oracle E-Business Suite and Intel processor-based handheld PC, mobile, server and communications platforms.

"As companies deploy RFID and sensor networks, they need to be able to handle vast amounts of real-time data along with new business processes if they want to realise the maximum ROI," said Tom Gibbs, director of strategy and planning at Intel's Solutions Market Development Group.

Allyson Fryhoff, vice president of Oracle's sensor-based services, added: "Our work with Intel allows us to help our customers further ease management of RFID and sensor information and leverage it to create new business processes."
