Keep your data safe with this solution

Deslock is a token-based encryption solution which provides protection for files and entire folders and uses three industry standard algorithms: AES, Blowfish and triple DES.

The Deslock solution is made up of a USB key (the token) called a Deskey, plus encryption software. While the Deskey is connected, the contents of pre-specified folders can be read or manipulated in the normal way.

Removing the Deskey, or deactivating it through the software, renders the documents inside these folders inaccessible.

Deslock works by using one of 64 available encryption keys, each of which uses one of the three algorithms above. By sharing keys between members of the same work group, users may update shared files across a network, without the need to decrypt and re-encrypt data while working.

Once encrypted, data may be sent to a recipient who may only gain access provided they too have the device. The electronic transfer of keys is done using an RSA public key algorithm that comes from within the smartcard core. The transfer of these keys can be restricted by administrators to guarantee that receiving users cannot transmit keys to further devices; an important security consideration.

As well as folder and individual file encryption, Deslock can also encrypt emails. While our review software was limited to Outlook 98 or later, the company claims it will have a Lotus Notes encryption system in the box by the time you read this.

Deslock provides a USB extension lead, as well as a backup key. The latter is very handy as it means the loss of the first won't permanently exclude you from encrypted folders. Though at £120 the price is high, this is an effective and reliable encryption solution.
