Resolution 17 times higher than that of HD

Written by Clive Akass

The BBC is to take part in a demonstration of Super Hi-Vision TV with a resolution of 35 megapixels – 17 times that of a 1080p HD screen.

The demonstration at the IBC technology show in Amsterdam in September will include live broadcasts from London by SIS Outside Broadcasts, previously part of the BBC, according to the trade magazine ERT Weekly.

Also involved is Japanese broadcaster NHK, which has helped develop the technology. Super Hi-Vision has a resolution of 7,680x4,320 pixels and 22.2 three-dimensional surround sound.

Compression used in the demonstration was developed by the BBC's Research and Development team.
