Vcom's Fix It Utilities 7 Professional, available from Avanquest, is yet another amalgamation of tools to help diagnose and correct problems with your PC.

In an effort to differentiate itself, it also incorporates antivirus and anti-spyware protection. It’s a pretty straightforward package that kicks off by giving you a summary of how well protected and healthy your system is.

Many of the individual checks are simplified into one-click operations that will help you fix, optimise, clean or protect your PC without having to trawl through each process manually.

It's also possible to target specific areas - you’ll find a selection of scans on the virus and spyware front from brief checks for major problems right through to deep scanning of hidden and system files and the registry.

There’s nothing particularly innovative here but, while not overly attractive, the simplistic interface makes it easy to locate the tools you need.

On the maintenance front you’ll find a wide range of options, although many of them are simply alternatives to the tools already found in Windows. Things are far more manageable here though, and there is enough extra to justify the expense, particularly when you take the antivirus and spyware features into account.

Much of the functionality works using a simple wizard-based structure. Although there are some options to help identify problems with your system, you’re not always given a lot of help or recommendations on how to solve them. In terms of fixes you’ll find registry, defrag and simple disk error checking along with a schedule creator to keep things ticking over.

Optimisation and cleaning tools don’t offer a lot extra but you will find file recovery and restoration features here to give you some control if things go wrong.

Although you don’t get a lot of control over many of the checks and fixes that take place, the flip side is that the suite is pretty easy to use. It’s clearly more suited to beginners as it doesn’t offer anything particularly powerful, but it will help out with the occasional hardware issues that might occur on your system from time to time.
