Formerly known as MP3-TagIt, Rip 'N' TagIt is basically the same user-friendly ID3 tagging software with the added bonus of a built-in CD Ripper.
Rip 'N' TagIt colour-codes each MP3 track according to what type of tag it has - specifically, whether it has an ID3v1 or ID3v2 tag, or indeed, whether it has a valid tag at all.
Advanced features include the ability to tag an entire album at a time, or bulk-edit different fields. So, for example, if you want to change the genre of a selection of tracks from Dance to Ambient, you can do it this way.
There's also the Auto-rename feature, with which you can alter the way a tag looks, whether it is upper or lowercase, begins each word with a capital letter and so on. And if you have no idea what your tag should contain, you can look it up online using the Freedb database.
Files can be renamed from their tags and reordered, but the limitation of the unregistered version is that you will be unable to edit song titles.
Use the CD Ripper in Rip 'N' TagIt and you can specify the bitrate to encode the MP3s at, and the program will accesses the freeDB service for the song and album details.
