This is a free book in PDF format from Karl Fogel, who worked for many years on the Open Source Subversion project, which provides wannabe developers with all they need to know in order to run a succesful free software project.
Consisting of 184 pages, the content is pretty detailed, and split into such subjects as technical infrastructure; packaging, releasing and development; money, and managing volunteers.
The book is also available to read online in HTML format, or download in RocketBook format from the Producing Open Source Software website. Alternatively, the book can be purchased in traditional format from bookshops such as Amazon.
Whilst it is written by an experienced developer of free software, the author doesn't assume the same level of technical expertise in its readers, so the style is clear, concise and easy to digest whether you are new to the whole software developing game, or a seasoned programmer.
