Users are being urged to improve their environmental awareness and eco-frindliness with new EcoCal software from environmental campaigner Going for Green.

Minister for the Environment Michael Meacher launched the software last week, asking households across the country to use the software to measure how green their lifestyle is. "Now, with EcoCal, people can measure the effectiveness of their actions, compare their EcoCal score to households of a similar size, understand where improvements can be made to benefit the environment and gain customised hints and tips on how to do it all," he said. "All at the touch of a button."

The software enables people to judge their wastage of natural resources and offers suggestions as to how they can be more efficient and create less pollution.

Going for Green, which produced EcoCal, is an environmental awareness campaign, supported by the government with private sector funding, that was set up in 1995 in response to the Rio Earth Summit.

The first 10,000 EcoCal disks are available free to the public by calling 0345 002100.
