Sega's Dreamcast has already clocked up over 40,000 pre-orders in the UK before its launch in the UK - breaking all previous records for games consoles.

Dreamcast, which includes internet access, is set to hit the shelves in the UK on 14 October, priced at under £200.

Retailers participating in the Dreamcast pre-sell campaign include Blockbuster, Choices Video, Comet, Currys, Dixons, Electronics, Boutique, Game, HMV, @Jakarta, MVC, PC World, Toys'R'Us, Virgin Megastore and Woolworths, and over 400 independent retailers.

One hundred stores across the country plan to open their doors at midnight on 13 October to service the huge demand expected for the Dreamcast. Virgin Megastore in London's Oxford Street is going as far as changing its name to 'Segastore' for the evening.
