3Com is boosting its IP data portfolio with the $26 million acquisition of fax over IP vendor, Lansource.

The networking firm has had a co-marketing relationship with Lansource since 1997. Together the companies have been developing fax over IP and integrated fax messaging products based on 3Com's Total Control multiservice access platform and Lansource's Faxport Virtual Networking software.

The purchase will beef up 3Com's offerings to enable telcos and service providers to offer enhanced services such as Internet faxing, pre-paid calling, Internet call waiting, unified messaging and integrated voice response systems.
