An internet stocking-filler is promising to make many more of us proud owners of a dotcom. Cashing in on the Christmas market, DotComsForChristmas is offering anyone with access to a computer a unique domain name, website and email facility for £25.
Suggestions include treating the boss to BigFatLazyToad.com, or the neighbours to StopPokingYourNoseIn.com. Founder Andy Brown said: "We are looking forward to seeing just how inventive gift-givers can be."
Firing the imagination today, new registrations include NurseGladys.com, MidfieldGenius.com and ILoveRonan.com.
A spokesman for the company said that the package was "good value for a dotcom", and that the gift has educational value.
"If you're giving a child their first computer for Christmas it's a great way to get them interested. It could also get the elderly hooked. Grandad may want to put his war experiences on the net."
Separately, a spokesman for UK registrar Nominet said that demand for domain names peaked in the UK when the registration price was cut to as low as £5 last year.
"Some 200,000 new registrations were being made a month. Now it's down to about 150,000. Practically all the standard words in the dictionary are now used up," he said.
