Nine out of ten UK internet users have experienced problems with their ISP, according to telecoms watchdog Oftel.
Connection problems and dissatisfaction with download speed were among the complaints recorded by the regulator's watchdog.
Despite these problems, the majority of internet users are satisfied with their internet service and the choice of connection methods and packages available to them, Oftel said.
Around 75 per cent of internet customers said they were satisfied that their package and ISP were best suited to their individual needs. About three in five customers were satisfied with subscription and calls costs and the customer service of their ISP.
The latest research from Oftel shows that home internet access is continuing to grow. Nearly eight million UK homes are connected to the internet, with nearly one third using some form of unmetered access service.
David Edmonds, director general of Oftel, said: "Demand for modern telecoms services such as mobile phones and internet access continues to grow. These dramatic changes illustrate the success of Oftel's policy of promoting competition to increase the availability of choice and keener prices to the consumer."
