Software vendor members of open source bodies Eclipse and Apache are to collaborate on a project to create a new development environment and toolset.
The Eclipse Pollinate project will work to provide a user interface and plug-ins to enable integration of Apache Beehive's open source Java application framework with the integrated development environment of the Eclipse Foundation.
The project, initiated by developer software vendor Instantiations, has brought together vendor BEA (the main sponsor of the Beehive Project) with Eclipse members. It has already attracted two additional companies, Soaring Eagle and Genuitec, to join up.
Instantiations will contribute the initial code for the open source community to use in developing a set of plug-ins and user interface components for connecting the Eclipse open source platform to Beehive's framework and runtime capabilities.
A Pollinate beta version is expected to be available sometime later this year under the Eclipse public licence.
