Top Layer partners Globix for network defence

Network Defender Series launched after six months' development and testing

Written by Robert Jaques

Security firm Top Layer Networks has announced a collaboration with internet application and infrastructure management services provider Globix to help provide the latter's Network Defender Series of managed security services.

Globix Network Defender provides network-level intrusion detection and prevention to guard against the growing number of malicious attacks such as Syn floods, worms, denial of service and distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

The product, launched after six months of development and testing, is available as a dedicated or shared service.

A mitigation service identifies and filters attack traffic and allows legitimate traffic to be forwarded to the customer site - ensuring uptime for business critical applications - and is capable of handling attack traffic speeds of up to 1Gbps.

"The recent high profile spate of DDoS-type attacks created havoc and lost revenues to a number of companies that were targeted because of their profile as high volume, low transactional value sites," said Phillip Cheek, managing director of Globix UK, in a statement.

"These attacks were designed to create maximum damage because the revenue was lost, not displaced.

"This trend of attack served as a warning to the whole online trading community that brute force does hurt and preventative security is absolutely critical to stopping this."
