Computer accessories company Kensington has widened its range of iPod add-ons with the launch of a flat speaker system and a TV entertainment dock that connects the Apple media players to home entertainment systems.

The Entertainment Dock 500 lets users share music, videos and photos through a television or home entertainment system. It comes with a wireless RF remote control that works up to 15 metres away.

However, Kensington is awaiting a ruling by the European Court on the accepted range of radio transmissions before it can sell its FM transmitters. The devices broadcast the iPod's songs as a signal that can be picked up on a car radio.

"We already have a strong market for these devices in the US where the law is different," said a Kensington spokesman.

"But if we put them out in the shops now, under current EU law we would have to sticker them to say it's illegal to use them even though it's legal to sell them. With the decision expected in June we thought it was better to wait until then."

Kensington also unveiled its SX2000 speaker system which pumps sound from the front and back of an integral flat speaker. It also charges the iPod when sitting in the cradle.

For users with a different MP3 player or stereo the device offers a standard 3.5mm headphone jack connection.
