Cash machine overload predicted at England half-time

Top-up before the match, says Link

Cash machine operator Link is anticipating a huge increase in demand for cash withdrawals at half time during England's game on Saturday.

The company has seen withdrawals increase by 40 per cent at half time during previous England matches.

During the England versus Paraguay match earlier this month cash withdrawals hit 6,200 per minute during the mid-game break, with more than £3.5m being taken out of accounts.

Withdrawals fell away during the second half, only to increase to 6,000 per minute once the game was over.

"If this quarter-final match is as tense as England's previous games, fans won't be able to tear themselves away from the action during the match and will rush to get cash during half-time," said Link spokesman Graham Mott.
