Mobile search chart reveals Brits on the razz

Cinema, Fast Food, Drinking and Taxi top the rankings

Figures from the m-spatial mobile search engine used by Orange, Vodafone and O2 suggest that fears about the average night out in Britain may be true.

The top search topics for the last quarter of 2007 were, in order of popularity, 'cinema', 'fast food', 'drinking' and 'taxi'. These made up nearly two thirds of all search requests from mobile phones.

"This quarter's search index highlights the growing trend of repeat usage of mobile local search services with consumers increasingly realising the value of search," said Andy Walker, chief executive of m-spatial.

"This is not only when in an unfamiliar area, but on a regular basis near home, when making regular journeys and when planning a night out. It is a significant step in the development and mass market adoption of local search."

'Odeon' and 'Cineworld' were the most searched for companies, accounting for over a third of searches between them. The next most popular companies were 'Domino's', 'Pizza Hut' and 'Asda'.

One of the fastest growing sectors was travel. Searches for 'traffic cameras', 'traffic jam reports' and 'parking' grew 100 per cent.
