Telco extends reach into Europe

Written by Matt Chapman

BT has acquired INS Group, a Belgium-based network and systems integrator, for an undisclosed sum.

The UK telco said that the acquisition is designed to strengthen its operations in the Benelux region, and improve its position in the global Lan and IP telephony services markets.

"Today's announcement marks the next step in our strategy to grow our global capability and market coverage in key convergence technologies," said François Barrault, chief executive at BT Global Services.

INS has headquarters in Brussels and employs more than 225 professionals across Benelux, France, Germany, the US, India and Australia.

The company provides corporate communication services, including the design and implementation of data, voice and video infrastructures.

INS generated revenues of €27.9m for the year ending 31 December 2006 and has assets of €13.5m.

BT's acquisition offer has been accepted by INS, but will still need the necessary regulatory clearances.

Last month BT made a €60m offer to acquire French firm CS Communication and Systèmes, which is expected to be completed by 30 November.
